Any flutist is welcome to join us!
We accept all ages and levels of musicians.

Email our Director at conductor@lexingtonflutes.org

Our rehearsals are held on Saturday mornings. We rehearse and perform throughout the year, taking June and July off, and a break at Christmas; we are flexible with schedules for marching band, sports, etc.

Membership dues are $20 per month, and there is a $30 registration fee which covers our music binder and music! Additional family members are just $5 per month, so if there are any mother/daughter, father/son, brother/sister flutists out there - we'd love to have you! We've had aunt/niece and even cousin combinations involved in the ensemble.

Most of our concerts are free and open to the public.

Questions and Answers

How do I join FSL?
Contact director Lisa Sherwood, conductor@lexingtonflutes.org
.

How experienced a musician do I need to be to join FSL?
We do not require an audition and welcome all levels of flute players. We also edit parts as necessary to fit the ability level of FSL members. However, to feel most comfortable with our music, we strongly suggest that each flutist be able to read and play one and a half octaves, from low F to high C, and be able to count basic rhythms including dotted notes.

While we do provide mentors for young players, students are also recommended to have the necessary maturity and independence to work through two hour rehearsals.

Scholarships.
Scholarships are available in the form of tuition (dues) waivers for qualified students. A letter of recommendation from a school or church music director will serve as qualification. Scholarship members will be expected to maintain a high level of performance and attendance.

Where and how often does FSL rehearse?
We rehearse weekly, on Saturday mornings from 10-11:30. We rehearse and perform year-round, taking time off for holidays, of course.

May I still be a member if I'm in marching band, sports, etc.?
Absolutely! We welcome all flutists and will work around your schedule. Just let us know in advance which concerts and rehearsals you're available for so that we can plan around it.

Would or could FSL play at my event?
We love to bring our music to the Lexington community! Both the full Flute Symphony and the chamber ensembles are available for various events such as weddings, luncheons, etc.

What do I need to bring and wear for FSL concerts?
All members will receive a black binder for their music and will need to bring it to each rehearsal. In addition, a pencil and a black or silver music stand will be needed at all concerts and rehearsals. At formal concerts members wear concert black, defined as black shirts, pants or skirts, socks and shoes. At informal and outdoor concerts we wear navy blue T-shirts with Khaki pants or shorts of your choosing.

May I play the piccolo, Eb soprano flute, alto or bass flute?
Members are chosen to play the specialty flutes based on interest, attendance and responsibility.

What if my flute needs repair?
We recommend Lee Sabel. Lee is a highly qualified and skilled technician, and can be reached at Hurst Music (335-0500) or lee@hurstmusic.com
